Dermal fillers are gelatinous, injectable materials which are used to fill out deeper lines such as naso-labial lines (nose to mouth lines), and to increase the volume or definition of lips and cheeks.
There are several different types of dermal filler – some are made of substances that occur naturally in the body, such as Hyaluronic acid (HA) and Collagen, while others are made of synthetic materials such as Polyacrylamide.
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found in the body.
- It helps to hydrate and add volume to the skin
- One third of the bodies’ naturally occurring HA is removed and replaced every day.
- Naturally occurring HA decreases with age.
Dermal fillers are often used for the following areas:
- Cheek Volume
- Nasolabial lines or folds
- Vertical lip lines
- Vermillion border
- Lip volume
- Glabellar lines
- Oral commissures
- Marionette lines
- Chin and jaw volume
