Are you nervous about going to the dentist?

No one likes pain but the good news is that times have changed and there's no reason why any dental procedure should be anything but a pleasant experience.

As a caring practice with a calm ambience, Lewisham Dental Practice aims to make your experience as comfortable as possible. We will explain what you can expect during the procedure and, depending on your level of anxiety, tailor a treatment for you.

Needle-free local anaesthesia

Apart from standard injections using needles, we offer Injex, a virtually pain-free system that uses air pressure to deliver a fine stream of anaesthetic into the gum. Injex works just as well as standard injections, in fact it is often quicker to act and there is also less numbness afterwards.

If nerves are serious, even preventing you from seeing a dentist, you may need sedation. We provide IV (intravenous) sedation, which in our experience has relaxed even the most nervous patient before treatment begins.

IV sedation is very safe but we will ask some detailed questions about your medical history before administration and, if IV sedation is not right for you, we will discuss alternative options.

Our IV sedation even has an amnesic effect, so you may not even remember your treatment. There are no nasty side effects but we do recommend that you bring someone with you because you will not be able to drive afterwards. We recommend going home and falling asleep on the sofa in front of a film. You can watch the ending another day!

To sum up, IV sedation can help because:

  • Nervous patients can undergo any treatment without pain
  • You won't experience any nasty side effects or grogginess
  • There is an amnesic effect, which means you may even forget the experience altogether
  • Our friendly team will listen to you and make sure that we're doing what's right for you

And be assured, if you are worried about sedation, we know how you feel. We've cared for many nervous patients and understand that you don't want to feel rushed or confused. You are welcome to have more appointments if necessary to get acquainted with the surroundings. Our staff will be more than happy to sit and have a chat with you. We pride ourselves on being friendly and empathetic and we love helping patients overcome their fears so that they feel comfortable when they never thought they would.
